Register Your Student for Concurrent Enrollment & Get a Jump on College
More partners coming soon…
We partner with colleges in Colorado to provide opportunities for qualified students to take college courses while in high school. Students participating in Concurrent Enrollment (CE) through our partnerships receive high school and college credits toward industry certificates, 2-year degrees, and 4-year universities.
What are the Qualifications?
To be eligible for CE, students must meet each of the following criteria:
-
Be in grades 10-12 or have approval from our academic counselor
-
Be on track for high school graduation according to our Graduation Plan in Student Information Services (SIS)
-
Meet GPA requirements—Requirements vary by CE partner, so click the college links above for more details
We welcome students who are academically ready for the college experience to join our CE program. The above criteria help ensure students who are placed in college courses are prepared and ready for this opportunity and challenge.
Credits and Courses
Here are a few things to know about credits and courses:
-
How many CE credits can my student take?
Students may take up to 15 concurrent enrollment credits per semester. Students must have approval from our academic counselor to take additional credits. We recommend taking a maximum of 2-3 CE courses per semester.
-
Are classes held on campus or online?
Students may take courses online or on campus. Parents must sign a waiver allowing the student to attend courses in person.
-
What costs are covered for each course?
Williamsburg covers the cost of tuition for CE courses and student fees required to attend PPSC. Additional course fees, supplies, and textbooks are not covered by Williamsburg.
-
How are grades and credits awarded?
Final grades for CE courses are recorded on both college and high school transcripts. If a student does not successfully complete a college course or withdraws, the final grade of D, F, or W is recorded on both transcripts.
Note: A final grade of D often does not earn college credit. A college course can be repeated once if not successfully completed the first time.
For CE courses worth 3 to 5 college credits, students will receive 1.0 high school credit (equaling two semesters of high school course credit).
For CE courses worth 0.5 to 2 college credits, students receive .5 high school credits (equaling one semester of high school course credit).
-
Can my student take courses through the ASCENT program?
Yes! Students who are in their senior year and have earned a minimum of 9 concurrent enrollment credits may stay enrolled at Williamsburg Academy of Colorado for one additional year and take advantage of ASCENT.
ASCENT is a state-funded program for 5th-year high school students that allows them to take college courses full-time without paying tuition.
What does this mean for you and your child? When they enroll with us for one additional year, they can attend college full-time, and we'll pay for it! You'll save hundreds, even thousands of dollars in college tuition.
See our FAQ section below for additional information about this program.
FAQs
Below is a list of our most popular FAQs.
If your question isn’t listed, please contact our Registrar for help!
-
Will my student automatically be approved for CE?
No. Students must meet Williamsburg’s academic requirements, take college placement exams to demonstrate college readiness, and be approved by our Academic Counselor.
-
Will my student have to take college placement exams?
As a general rule, yes. Students wishing to participate in our CE program must take the NextGen Accuplacer exams. These exams are used nationwide to measure if students are ready for college.
Note: Some exceptions may apply depending on the partner. Please look at our CE partner pages to better understand college-readiness requirements.
-
What are the minimum test scores for placement?
Students hoping to take college-level courses must meet the minimum prerequisites for college courses and demonstrate college readiness using test scores from the NextGen Accuplacer exam (national open enrollment college entrance exam).
Subject NextGen Accuplacer English Writing 246+ Reading -- Math Arithmetic 265+ Career/Fin Math Quantitative Reasoning, Algebra, and Statistics 240+ LibArts, Stats Advanced Algebra & Functions 245‑279 Coll Alg Advanced Algebra & Functions 280+ Pre‑Calc
Students scoring within 4 points of the cut score for the NextGen Accuplacer exam may still qualify for a college course using multiple measures. Counselors will determine eligibility using high school transcripts and a variety of other factors. Not every student will qualify. -
What is the College Opportunity Fund (COF)?
The College Opportunity Fund (COF) is a stipend from the state of Colorado that funds a portion of college tuition ($94 per credit) for students receiving Colorado resident tuition.
All Concurrent Enrollment students must apply for COF to participate in Concurrent Enrollment or parents will receive an invoice for the amount of the stipend, which is currently $94 per college credit. COF can amount to $282-470 per course, so please be sure to confirm your COF application and authorization.
-
Will CE courses transfer to other colleges & universities?
GT Pathways courses (Guaranteed Transfer) are college level courses transferable to many public Colorado universities. Most GT Pathways courses transfer out of state as well, based on specific university transfer policies. GT Pathways courses include general education courses such as English, Math, Sciences, Arts & Humanities, Social & Behavioral Science, and World Languages.
University-bound students should confirm CE course transfer with their universities of choice before registration each semester.
-
What is ASCENT and what are the requirements?
Accelerating Students through Concurrent Enrollment (ASCENT) is a fifth-year high school program that allows students to participate in concurrent enrollment the year after 12th grade. In this program, students can enroll in postsecondary courses and earn college credit tuition-free.
Additional costs, such as textbooks, fees, and transportation, are not covered and are the parent and/or student's responsibility.
Qualified students who have completed at least 9 credit hours of postsecondary coursework before completion of their 12th-grade year may be eligible for the ASCENT Program. Please review the eligibility requirements outlined by the state of Colorado.
Students who wish to live on campus in a dorm are traditionally not allowed to, as high school students are ineligible to live on a college campus. However, some universities may provide a waiver to ASCENT students to access housing. Housing costs are not covered by the ASCENT program.
-
How much can I save in college tuition costs?
Depending on how many college credits students can complete while participating in CE, families can save up to $10,000 to $15,000 (based on school choice) in tuition costs for every year of college offset through our early college program. This total does not include savings on room and board, which can double the amount families spend on college.
If your student participates in ASCENT, the savings could be even greater!
-
How many college courses are right for my student?
Our CE partners and Williamsburg academic counselors consider a student’s individual career and academic plans, pathways, academic history, graduation requirements, as well as personal readiness when determining college course load each semester.
We recommend students begin CE with a combination of high school and college courses, progressing to heavier college course loads (up to 15 college credits per semester) and lighter high school course loads as they become comfortable with college courses.
-
Does Williamsburg cover the cost of CE books and supplies?
No. For CE courses, we cover the cost of tuition only. Williamsburg does not pay for college fees or course-related fees, including college textbooks and supplies.
-
Does Williamsburg provide transportation for on-campus classes?
No. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from college classes.
-
Will CE courses be like high school classes?
No, concurrent enrollment courses will be more rigorous, and students should be prepared to be treated like college students.
Students are expected to sign up for classes, manage and meet course deadlines, communicate directly with professors, seek help with course content when struggling, and accept consequences when course standards aren't met, all without the help of a parent or guardian. Parents can support and encourage students at home, but the success and management of CE courses are the student's responsibility.Additionally, the grades students earn in CE courses will be applied to their college transcript.
